Depicting the opposing sides of the American War of Independence. For the Americans, the King is represented by
General George Washington, the Queen by Betsy Ross. The Bishops are represented by Benjamin Franklin & Thomas
Jefferson, the Knights by Generals, the Marquis de LaFayette and Benedict Arnold, the castles by the Independence
Hall, Philadelphia, and the pawns by a Private of the Third New Jersey Regiment, known as the Jersey Blues. For the
the British side, the King is represented by George III, the Queen by Charlotte, wife of George III, The Bishops are
represented by Lord Fredrick North, Prime Minister to George III and General Sir William Howe, the Knights by
General Charles, Earl Cornwallis & Benedict Arnold, the castles by the Tower of London & the Pawns by a Private of
the Grenadier Company of the Coldstream Guards. American Independence Chess Set is imported from England.
